Hampton Virginia is a charming city known for its beaches, shopping, and historic significance. This southeastern Virginia city is near the Blue Ridge Mountains and major interstates. It is also near the Outer Banks of North Carolina and D.C. and has a mild climate.
The Hampton Roads region of Virginia is known for its many military bases. Most are located in Norfolk, but Hampton is the home of Langley Air Force Base, which is also home to the Virginia Air and Space Science Center.
The Virginia Air and Space Museum is a fun place to learn about the history of the United States' space flight. It has an outdoor skating rink and an IMAX theater. It also has a Children's Room, with toys and books to entertain the little ones.
There are several parks to enjoy in the area. These include Bluebird Gap Farm, where you can see 150 wild animals and a variety of animals that you can interact with. They also have a playground, picnic area, and saltwater fishing.
Another fun activity is the Floating Dock. Located along the Newmarket Creek, this is a great place to watch birds and other wildlife. It has a canoe, kayak, and paddle board rentals.
Another interesting activity is the IMAX center at the Hampton Roads Aquarium. The facility features three different titles every day. You can also visit the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance to find out how to start your own business.
There is one free attraction in Hampton VA that you really shouldn't miss. That attraction is the Air Power Park. The museum has restored aircraft, a mini-spaceport, and even a rocket. The park is open from 9 am to 4:30 pm.
Other attractions in the city are the Virginia Aquarium Solarium and the Hampton Roads Power Plant. Both of these venues have a great time-tested name. However, you may want to skip the power plant in favor of a more fun place to spend your afternoon.
The Evo Entertainment Center has all of the usual arcade games, a bowling alley, and a movie theater. This is a great spot for a summer day out on the town.
While it's true that Hampton is a nice little city, it doesn't compare to the other Virginia beaches. In fact, it's a bit of a drive to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. But if you're interested in some beach time, you can head to nearby Virginia Beach or Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, which is just over two hours away.
Although Hampton is a charming town, the crime statistics show that it has a higher population than some of the other cities in the region. One interesting fact is that 8.8% of the people living in the area are below the poverty line. As a result, the city isn't exactly safe. Those looking to live in a safer neighborhood should consider moving farther north. Fortunately, it's not as difficult to find a home in this area as you might think.
